Delhi Minister Atishi was admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital early Tuesday after her health deteriorated during an indefinite hunger strike. Atishi is protesting against the Haryana government for withholding 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of water, causing a severe water crisis in the national capital.
Her hunger strike, which began on June 22, reached its fifth day on Tuesday. Atishi claims that Haryana is not releasing Delhi’s rightful share of water.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) reported that due to her deteriorating health, doctors advised hospital admission after a health checkup revealed a significant drop in her blood pressure and sugar levels, which were deemed dangerously low.
AAP stated that Atishi’s hunger strike aims to secure the water rights of 28 lakh Delhi residents. She insists the strike will continue until the Haryana government releases Delhi’s water share and opens the gates of Hathnikund Barrage.
The AAP has accused Haryana of reducing Delhi’s water supply by 100 MGD daily, exacerbating the water shortage affecting millions in Delhi, especially amid high temperatures and heat waves. Many residents have been relying on water tankers for their daily needs, a common sight in several areas since the onset of summer this year.
