Around 30 schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email early Friday morning, prompting a large-scale search involving police, fire services, and bomb detection teams. Despite the intensive investigation, no suspicious devices were found. Police investigations revealed that the emails originated from abroad, warning of potential bomb blasts on Friday and Saturday.
The threats specifically targeted events like parent-teacher meetings and sports day activities to incite panic among students, parents, and school authorities. This incident follows a similar wave of threats on December 9, when at least 44 schools were targeted, which were later deemed hoaxes.
Schools such as Bhatnagar International School, Cambridge School, DPS Amar Colony, and Venkateshwar Global School were among those affected. As a precaution, school managements advised parents not to send children to school or to retrieve them if already there.
The Delhi Police Special Cell has filed a case of criminal intimidation and conspiracy, but the source of the threats remains unidentified. Political leaders, including former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, have criticized the impact these threats have on children’s safety and mental well-being, calling the situation extremely serious and concerning for the future of their education.
