In a grim incident reported from Delhi’s Shahdara district, a man and his sister were found dead inside their locked rented flat in Dilshad Garden on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Vinesh Kumar Tomar (32) and his younger sister Chinki (30), both natives of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.

Police were alerted around 8 am following complaints of a foul smell coming from the ground-floor flat in D Block of a low-income group (LIG) housing complex. On forced entry, the siblings were discovered dead. “The flat was bolted from inside. Preliminary investigation suggests suicide,” said DCP (Shahdara) Prashanth Priya Gautam.

The duo had been living there since 2021. Vinesh worked with an IT company, while Chinki was reportedly pursuing a course. Their landlord, Rajiv, said the pair kept a low profile and rarely interacted with others in the society. “They were reclusive… their last month’s rent was due,” he added.

This incident adds to a worrying trend of similar suspected suicides in Delhi. Earlier in March, a woman and her two daughters were found dead in Badarpur amid financial distress. Days later, a young Nepali couple was found dead in Hauz Khas’s Deer Park in another apparent suicide case.

The rising number of such deaths has raised concern about mental health and financial strain in urban isolation.
