New Delhi: A 31-year-old software engineer died after he was allegedly beaten by his in-laws following a domestic dispute at his home in Delhi’s Nihal Vihar, according to police and the victim’s family.

The deceased has been identified as Vinay Gupta, who reportedly worked for Adobe and earned an annual package of around Rs 60 lakh.

Dispute over child’s medicine

According to the report, an argument broke out between Vinay and his wife Rekha over giving medicine to their child.

Rekha subsequently left the house and contacted her family. Around 10 minutes later, she reportedly returned with her two brothers, sister-in-law, father, uncle and other relatives.

The family allegedly assaulted Vinay after arriving at the house.

Family alleges planned attack

Vinay’s mother, who lived on the floor below the couple, told the family that she had stepped out briefly to arrange water and refreshments for the visitors.

When she returned, she allegedly found her son being attacked. She reportedly tried to intervene and called for help, but the assault continued.

Vinay’s family has alleged that the attackers strangled him and repeatedly kicked and punched him in the chest. They have also alleged that the incident was pre-planned and claimed that CCTV cameras inside the house had been switched off before the alleged assault.

These allegations are part of the ongoing investigation and have not yet been established in court.

Four people arrested

After the alleged assault, a neighbour was reportedly seen carrying Vinay towards the hospital. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police have arrested four people in connection with the case — Rekha, her two brothers and one sister-in-law.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Vinay’s death and the allegations made by both sides.

Couple had four-month-old twins

Vinay and Rekha had been married for around three-and-a-half years and had twin children, a boy and a girl, who were approximately four-and-a-half months old.

The couple lived on the third floor of the house, while Vinay’s parents stayed downstairs.

Vinay’s family has also alleged that there had been previous disputes and that Rekha’s brother had allegedly threatened him over minor disagreements.

The investigation is continuing, with police examining CCTV footage, statements and other evidence to establish what happened inside the house.
