New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to achieve a significant milestone with the Aditya L1 mission as it reaches its final destination on Saturday at 4 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the successful positioning of India’s first solar observatory, Aditya-L1, at Lagrange Point 1 to study the Sun. In a social media post, PM Modi applauded the dedicated efforts of Indian scientists, describing the mission as a “landmark” and highlighting the nation’s commitment to complex and intricate space missions. ISRO will execute the final manoeuvre to inject the Aditya-L1 spacecraft into its intended orbit near the Sun, approximately 1.5 million kilometres from Earth.
Launched aboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C57) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on September 2, 2023, Aditya-L1 is India’s first space-based observatory designed to study the Sun.
Aditya-L1 is now in a halo orbit around L1, providing continuous views of the Sun without eclipses, allowing for real-time observation of solar activities and their impact on space weather. The spacecraft carries seven payloads to study various aspects of the Sun’s atmosphere and solar dynamics.
