Delhi: Following Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj’s allegation, the Tihar authorities have now sought assistance from AIIMS for a diabetologist, contradicting their earlier claims of having adequate medical provisions for diabetics within the prison.

Bharadwaj on Sunday, stated at a press conference that the director general of Prisons had recently written to AIIMS, requesting the presence of a diabetologist at Tihar Jail. He highlighted the irony of this request, considering Chief Minister Kejriwal had been in Tihar for nearly 20 days without such a specialist.

“While Tihar administration asserts the presence of sufficient medical facilities, they are now seeking assistance from AIIMS for a diabetologist,” remarked the AAP leader.

Responding to Bharadwaj’s accusation, the Tihar administration clarified that senior specialists from AIIMS had already conducted a detailed consultation with Kejriwal via video conference on Saturday. During the 40-minute session, Kejriwal was assured that there were no serious concerns and was advised to continue with prescribed medications.

The video conference, facilitated by Tihar Jail administration at the request of Kejriwal’s wife, included a senior specialist from AIIMS along with medical officers from Tihar. The AIIMS specialist was provided with comprehensive information regarding Kejriwal’s health status, including glucose monitoring data, diet details, and medication records.

Contrary to Bharadwaj’s claims of a conspiracy, the jail official stated that neither Kejriwal nor the doctors raised any concerns regarding insulin during the consultation.

Nevertheless, Bharadwaj reiterated his suspicions, suggesting a concerted effort to harm Kejriwal during his judicial custody. He pointed out the conflicting narratives between Kejriwal’s purported need for insulin and assertions from BJP and Tihar Jail that he was in good health.

Earlier, the Tihar jail administration had submitted a report to Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena, stating that Kejriwal had been attended to by a medicine specialist on multiple occasions, and insulin had not been withheld at any point during his treatment.
