New Delhi: In response to the death of three civilians detained by troops in connection with a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, a Brigade Commander of the Army has been directed to join the formal inquiry. The Army, expressing zero tolerance for violence against innocent civilians, will investigate the circumstances surrounding the civilians’ deaths and examine the recurring loss of troops in recent terrorist attacks in the area of responsibility of the concerned officer.
This development aligns with Army Chief General Manoj Pande‘s visit to Jammu, where he is scheduled to review the operational preparedness of the force and the prevailing security situation. The three civilians, detained for questioning after a terrorist attack, were found dead, sparking allegations of custodial torture. A video purportedly showing troops beating the civilians circulated on social media, prompting an Army officer to verify its authenticity.
Over the past seven months, more than 20 soldiers, including officers and Special Forces Commandos, have lost their lives in terrorist attacks in the Poonch and Rajouri districts. A recent ambush near Bafliaz resulted in the death of four soldiers and injuries to three others. The inquiry aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding both the civilian deaths and the recurrent loss of troops in the region.
