New Delhi: The political feud between the AAP and BJP reached new heights on Friday, fueled by the Chandigarh mayoral election controversy and the ongoing summons issued to Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate. In response, a mass protest led by Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann flooded the streets of the national capital, with Kejriwal accusing the BJP of rigging the recent election and undermining democracy. The protest, marked by huge crowds and spirited slogans against the BJP, encountered resistance from Delhi Police, leading to allegations of suppression by AAP leaders.

As tensions escalated, both parties engaged in a war of words on social media, with AAP ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj accusing the BJP of fear and electoral fraud, while BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized Kejriwal for evading investigation and playing the victim. Delhi Police ramped up security measures across key locations to prevent potential disturbances.

The Chandigarh mayoral election outcome, where the AAP-Congress alliance narrowly lost, intensified the AAP’s accusations against the BJP, drawing parallels to disputed elections elsewhere. The matter has also reached the Supreme Court, with allegations of electoral malpractice.

In a separate case concerning Delhi’s liquor policy, the AAP has alleged BJP manipulation of central agencies to target Kejriwal, suggesting a ploy to arrest him ahead of upcoming elections. Despite questioning by investigative bodies, Kejriwal has not been formally charged. However, three former AAP ministers have been arrested in related cases, heightening political tensions between the two parties.
