New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was brought to Tihar Jail on Monday amid tight security. The CM will be lodged in Jail Number 2, according to reports.
The CM, who is facing a probe by the Enforcement Directorate in a liquor policy case, has been sent to judicial custody till April 15 by a Delhi court. Kejriwal was produced before the Rouse Avenue Court following the end of his custodial remand in the excise policy case. The court had extended his custody till April 1 on March 28.
Opposition leaders from the ‘INDIA’ block came together and held a rally at Ramlila Maidan opposing the arrest of Kejriwal. The opposition has been accusing the ruling union government of misusing autonomous probe agencies for its political gains.
The CM will be lodged in Jail Number 2, making him the fifth leader from the opposition to be lodged in this high-security jail, and the fourth leader from the AAP.
It is reported that the CM has asked for three books inside the jail. At present, the CM is being frisked by jail authorities and his data is being fed into the jail software. The three books Kejriwal sought were Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, and “Prime Ministers Decide” by journalist Neerja Chowdhury, while in judicial custody.
