Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s anticipated two-day visit to India, during which he was set to reveal plans for the company’s entry into the Indian market, has been postponed. Musk had originally planned to visit India on April 21 and 22 to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a post on Twitter, Musk stated “Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year”. The postponement reportedly stems from Musk’s need to participate in a crucial conference call on April 23 in the United States to address questions regarding Tesla’s first-quarter performance.

Musk, who also heads SpaceX, was expected to announce an investment of $2-3 billion to establish a factory for entry-level cars as part of Tesla Inc’s much-awaited foray into the Indian market. The Indian government recently revealed a policy aimed at reducing high tariffs on imported cars if companies invest domestically.

Musk was slated to divulge plans for introducing Starlink, a satellite network providing high-speed internet connectivity.

During his visit to India, Musk was also scheduled to have meetings with Indian space technology startups. According to the reports, Indian government extended invitations to companies such as Piersight, Skyroot Aerospace, Dhruva Space, and Digantara for discussions with the SpaceX CEO in New Delhi.
