New Delhi: In the aftermath of India’s Balakot strikes, former diplomat Ajay Bisaria reveals details in his upcoming book, ‘Anger Management: The Troubled Diplomatic Relationship Between India and Pakistan.’ Following the Balakot airstrikes, various countries, including China, offered to send special envoys for de-escalation.
However, India declined China’s offer and was willing to send an Indian Air Force aircraft to Pakistan to bring back Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. Pakistan refused permission, citing the optics of an Indian Air Force plane landing in Islamabad after recent tensions. The book also highlights diplomatic efforts involving the US, UK, and France during the crisis.
Bisaria emphasizes India’s effective coercive diplomacy and Prime Minister Modi’s assertion that Pakistan’s announcement of returning the pilot prevented a potential night of bloodshed. On regional geopolitics, Imran Khan sought China’s support against India, but President Xi Jinping rejected the idea, advising Khan to improve relations with the US and Afghanistan instead.
