Delhi: Late on Wednesday night, Delhi ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj sounded an alarm, suggesting that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) might conduct a raid at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal‘s residence on Thursday morning, potentially leading to his arrest. Atishi tweeted at 11:50 pm, “News coming in that ED is going to raid @ArvindKejriwal’s residence tomorrow morning. Arrest likely,” and Saurabh Bharadwaj echoed the information in Hindi two minutes later.

This development followed Kejriwal’s third non-compliance with ED summons related to an alleged liquor scam, with the Chief Minister deeming the summons illegal. The BJP responded sharply, questioning Kejriwal’s actions and urging him to move to court if he believed the summons were unlawful.

The BJP tweeted, “What is Arvind Kejriwal scared of? Has he abandoned Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, who continue to be in jail in the Liquor Excise scam?” The party criticized Kejriwal for evading ED summons and suggested that he should provide lessons in corruption to I.N.D.I Alliance leaders.

Kejriwal had previously skipped summons on November 2, citing administrative duties and election campaigning in Madhya Pradesh. The second summons on December 21 coincided with his departure for Vipassana, and on December 3, Kejriwal wrote to the ED, expressing readiness to answer the questionnaire but noting a lack of response to his earlier letters seeking additional context.

In his latest reply to the ED, Kejriwal cited his responsibilities as the Chief Minister and preparations for Republic Day events. The Main Bhi Kejriwal campaign’s second phase is set to begin on Thursday, following outreach to 2.4 million households in Delhi. The campaign sought public feedback on whether Kejriwal should resign if arrested or continue governing from jail. The party claimed overwhelming public support for Kejriwal to remain in office even if arrested.
