New Delhi: French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to arrive in Jaipur on Thursday for a two-day state visit to India, where he will serve as the chief guest for this year’s Republic Day celebrations.

Macron’s packed itinerary in Jaipur kicks off at Amer Fort, where a cultural event has been organized in his honor. Following this, he will proceed to Jantar Mantar, a designated World Heritage Site. There, he is slated to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and explore the historical significance of the area. Jantar Mantar, renowned as the world’s largest observatory, houses the largest stone sundial globally.

Historical ties between France and Jaipur are emphasized by the fact that in 1734, two French Jesuit astronomers, based in the French-controlled Chandernagore (now Chandannagar) in West Bengal, were invited to the court of Sawai Jai Singh, the founder of Jaipur.

The Jantar Mantar itself is a collection of 19 astronomical instruments crafted by Sawai Jai Singh. The joint roadshow between Prime Minister Modi and President Macron will follow, starting from Jantar Mantar and concluding at Sanganeri Gate, with a notable stopover at Hawa Mahal along the way.
