New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate conducted raids this morning at multiple locations in Delhi, Chandigarh, and Varanasi, including the residences of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal‘s personal secretary, a Rajya Sabha MP, and several other AAP leaders. These searches are part of a money laundering investigation related to purported irregularities within the Delhi Jal Board, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Among those targeted in the raids were Bibhav Kumar, the personal secretary to Mr. Kejriwal, Rajya Sabha MP ND Gupta, and former DJB member Shalabh Kumar. In response to the actions, Delhi Minister Atishi addressed reporters, alleging that the raids were an attempt to intimidate the party. She further claimed that the ED was pressuring individuals to provide false statements.
Atishi emphasized that no incriminating evidence or funds had been discovered during the raids. She accused the ED of coercing accused individuals to become government witnesses, suggesting an ulterior motive behind the investigations.
The raids are connected to an alleged scam involving the Delhi Jal Board, with the ED’s involvement originating from an FIR filed by the CBI and an Anti-Corruption Branch inquiry. The agency is currently investigating financial irregularities in the tendering process of the DJB. Notably, retired chief engineer Jagdish Kumar Arora and contractor Anil Kumar Aggarwal were arrested last week in connection with the case. Their custody was extended by a special PMLA court for five more days on Monday.
This isn’t the first time the ED has been involved in probing these alleged irregularities. Last year, they conducted raids across various locations in Delhi-NCR, Chennai, and Kerala as part of the ongoing investigation.
