New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemned the threats directed towards his party colleague from Andhra Pradesh, YS Sharmila, denouncing it as a disgraceful act. He expressed his dismay on X, stating, “Insulting and threatening women, a vile and cowardly act, is unfortunately the most common weapon of the weak.” Rahul Gandhi reiterated the Congress party’s solidarity with YS Sharmila and her associate Suneetha, firmly condemning the attack.
AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal highlighted the apprehension of certain factions in Andhra Pradesh in response to the growing support for YS Sharmila and the Congress in the southern state. He decried the death threats and online harassment aimed at Sharmila and Suneetha, affirming the party’s unwavering support against these attempts to besmirch their reputation and the legacy of YS Rajashekhar Reddy.
Former Union Minister MM Pallam Raju lamented the disturbing trend of online trolling targeting YS Sharmila, the AP Congress chief, and Suneetha Narreddy, daughter of former Andhra Pradesh minister YS Vivekananda Reddy. Pallam Raju emphasized their adherence to the ideology of Dr YSR, expressing sadness over the abusive treatment they faced. Additionally, he shared a media report detailing Suneetha Narreddy’s complaint filed with the Gachibowli cyber crime police station in Hyderabad against an individual for abusive and threatening Facebook posts.
YS Sharmila staged a protest at the Andhra Bhavan in Delhi, advocating for the special category status to Andhra Pradesh and the fulfillment of bifurcation promises. Alongside senior Congress leaders from Andhra Pradesh, she demonstrated before the BR Ambedkar statue to voice her concerns.
