Sanjay Singh, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. This decision came after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) chose not to contest Singh’s bail plea, marking him as the first AAP leader to secure bail in this case. Notably, the ED expressed no objection to Singh being granted bail.
While granting bail, a three-judge bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Dipankar Datta, and PB Varale made it clear that the concession made by the probe agency should not set a precedent. Additionally, the court instructed Singh, who had spent six months in jail, to refrain from making any comments regarding the case while on bail.
During the hearing, the bench noted that no money had been recovered from Singh’s possession, and the allegation of him receiving a Rs 2 crore bribe would be subject to trial. The ED, initially opposed Singh’s bail plea in the high court, had accused him of involvement in various activities related to the alleged Delhi liquor scam during the 2021-22 policy period, including acquiring, possessing, concealing, dissipating, and utilizing proceeds of the crime.
Aam Aadmi Party tweeted Satyameva Jayate soon after its leader secured the bail.
