New Delhi: Beginning with the academic session of 2024-25, students embarking on their Class X and XII journey will mark the initiation of a new era in board examinations. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to introduce a multiple-board format, with the inaugural exams scheduled for 2025, as confirmed by a senior official from the Ministry of Education.

Dharmendra Pradhan, the Minister of Education, announced the implementation of a twice-a-year board format starting from the 2024-25 academic year. This transformative approach will directly impact the current Class IX and XI students, with the new system being optional for Class X and XII candidates. The primary goal is to alleviate the pressure on students by offering multiple chances to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.

The senior official emphasized that participating in both sets of exams is not mandatory. Students who are content with their performance in the first round can choose to skip the subsequent one. The flexibility aims to cater to individual needs and preferences, fostering a more student-centric examination environment.

In the 2023 CBSE board exams, a substantial 38.82 lakh candidates undertook the Class X (21.86 lakh) and XII (16.96 lakh) examinations. According to Ministry of Education sources, the initial set of exams for the 2025 academic year is anticipated to take place in November-December 2024, followed by the second round in February-March 2025. The final results and merit list will be determined by considering the better of the two scores achieved by the candidates.
