Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu has issued strict instructions to all sugar factories in the district to comply with government-fixed rates for sugarcane cutting and transportation. This directive comes after complaints from farmers that non-compliance was causing financial losses and logistical difficulties.

Meeting with Officials and Farmers

The DC convened a meeting with farmers from the Kalaghatagi region and key officials to discuss the issue. She emphasized that sugar factories must adhere to the rates fixed by the state government to ensure that farmers receive fair compensation for their produce.

The meeting was attended by Sub-Divisional Officer Shalam Hussain, Joint Director of the Food Department Dr. Vinod Heggadagi, Kalaghatgi Tahsildar Basavaraj Honkanadavar, and farmer representatives including Mahesh Belagavkar, Ulavappa Badiger, Vasanth Lakkappanavar, Purushottam Ettinagudda, Shivu Tadas, and Basanagouda Siddanagoudar.

The DC instructed the Kalaghatagi Tahsildar and police officials to monitor sugarcane transport and ensure that factories strictly follow the government rates. She warned that any violations would be dealt with firmly, highlighting the administration’s commitment to protecting farmers’ interests.
