Another concerning incident has emerged from a residential school in Odisha’s Keonjhar district, where a Class 6 student was found to be pregnant. The situation came to light during a routine health check-up at her Ashram school in Champua.
Reports suggest that the girl had visited her hometown during the Makar Sankranti holidays in January. After her return, a healthcare worker noticed irregularities in her health and informed school authorities. A medical examination at the district hospital later confirmed the pregnancy. Officials then instructed the headmaster to report the matter to the police.
Further inquiries revealed that the girl confided in the hostel matron about her experience, leading to further investigation.
This case follows two similar incidents in Odisha. In Malkangiri’s Chitrakonda, a Class 10 student gave birth on a hostel rooftop shortly after completing an exam. In another case from Jajpur, a 15-year-old girl, reportedly subjected to repeated misconduct by an older individual, delivered a baby the night before an important exam. She was taken to a medical facility due to severe discomfort.
Authorities have taken the accused into custody and initiated legal proceedings under the POCSO Act. These incidents have sparked serious discussions about child safety and the urgent need for stronger protection measures.
