In Dharmapuri early Monday, Monica, a 27-year-old woman doctor, tragically ended her life by allegedly injecting an overdose of sleeping tablets at a private hospital. Monica, from Hariharanatha Swamy Temple Street, had been working at BGR Hospital for two years after completing her MBBS in the Philippines.

Police revealed that Monica was deeply unhappy with the groom chosen by her parents for marriage. On Sunday evening, she left home for work and attended to patients until midnight. Around 2 am, when nurses tried to wake her for outpatient duty, she did not respond. Hospital staff broke open her door and found her unconscious.

She was rushed to the ICU but sadly passed away despite medical efforts. About 40 sleeping tablets were found in her handbag. The body was sent for post-mortem at Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital.

Investigations indicated that Monica was suffering from depression due to her marriage alliance and had shared her distress with friends. A police case has been registered, and inquiries are ongoing.
