A 40-year-old domestic help was found dead on Wednesday afternoon at the office-cum-residence of a sand trader, police said.

The deceased, identified as Rajiv alias Vicky, hailed from Una district of Himachal Pradesh. According to the Uttar Pradesh Police, he was employed by local sand trader Sudhir Rathi.

Body found near in-house temple

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Loni Siddhartha Gautam stated that Vicky’s body was discovered lying on the floor in front of an in-house temple located on the ground floor of the two-storey building.

Police reached the spot upon receiving information and recovered Rathi’s licensed 12-bore gun lying near the body. The weapon has been seized for forensic examination.

Rathi informed police that he had left for Katha village in Baghpat district at around 7.30 am on Wednesday. His nephew, who resides with him, had reportedly travelled to Aligarh the same day. According to Rathi, the firearm was usually kept inside a bed in one of the rooms.

Prima facie suicide suspected

“Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide,” ACP Gautam said, adding that the body has been sent for postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Police officials confirmed that further investigation is underway, including examination of forensic evidence and recording of statements.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation while the probe continues.
