In a shocking incident on Gokhale Bridge, Andheri East, a 32-year-old drunk driver, Devpriya Nishank, allegedly drove his high-end car under the influence of alcohol and caused significant disruption during a police nakabandi. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday on the Western Express Highway.

According to officials, Nishank, accompanied by a woman who had also consumed alcohol, attempted to evade police checking. Upon noticing the barricades ahead, he rammed into them and collided with three other vehicles in his bid to escape. The reckless behavior endangered lives and caused damage to public and private property.

Police personnel and vigilant passersby quickly gave chase and forced Nishank to bring his vehicle to a halt. However, he refused to exit the car, prompting onlookers to break the car’s glass. In the ensuing chaos, Nishank faced mob anger and was thrashed before being detained by the authorities. He was taken for a medical examination to confirm his inebriated state.

The accused, a businessman residing in Worli, is now under police custody as investigations continue. No major injuries were reported, but the incident has once again raised concerns about the dangers of drunk driving and its potential consequences.

Police have reiterated the importance of adhering to road safety norms and warned of strict action against those violating the law. The nakabandi, a routine check to curb such incidents, played a crucial role in averting further harm.
