In a tragic incident in Vadodara, Gujarat, a 20-year-old drunk driver caused a horrific road accident, killing a woman and seriously injuring three others. The crash, which occurred near Karelibag late Thursday night at around 12:30 am, involved the driver speeding at 120 km/hour before crashing into two scooters and hitting four pedestrians, including a woman named Hemani Patel, who tragically died on the spot.
The driver, identified as Rakshit Chaurasia from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, is a law student at a university in Vadodara. The incident, captured on disturbing video footage, shows Chaurasia stumbling out of the severely damaged car, shouting “another round” and chanting “Om Namah Shivay” as bystanders tried to control the situation. His co-passenger, Mit Chauhan, also a student in Vadodara and the car’s owner, was arrested shortly after.
The footage shows Chaurasia’s reckless driving, as the car rammed into the scooters, dragging the riders before crashing to a halt. Hemani Patel, who was out with her young daughter to buy Holi colours, died instantly, while the child and two others were rushed to the hospital.
The police are investigating the incident, analyzing CCTV footage, and have filed an FIR. Chaurasia’s driving license is valid, and he underwent a medical test to confirm his blood alcohol level. Chauhan was also tested for alcohol.
The incident has sparked outrage, with locals thrashing the driver before police intervened.
