A wedding in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly took a dramatic turn when a groom, reportedly drunk, mistakenly garlanded his friend instead of the bride during the traditional garland exchange. The incident occurred in a village near the Barkheda area under the Clodia police station. The groom, identified as Ravindra Kumar, arrived at the venue in an intoxicated state.
The bride, shocked and furious by the mistake, immediately slapped the groom in front of the guests and refused to go through with the wedding. She made it clear that she would not marry someone who had shown such disrespect by appearing drunk at his own wedding.
The situation quickly escalated into a heated altercation between both families. Chairs were thrown, food was scattered, and guests engaged in angry arguments. The conflict became so intense that the police had to intervene. Upon their arrival, they arrested the groom and conducted a medical examination.
Despite attempts by the elderly from both sides to resolve the situation, the bride remained resolute in her decision. With no wedding to proceed with, the entire baraat had to leave empty-handed. The bride’s family also accused the groom’s family of demanding additional dowry. A case has been filed under the Dowry Act against the groom and his family.
