New Delhi: A 46-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his roommate following an altercation at their rented accommodation in southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh, police said on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Ranjit Ram, a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur, allegedly assaulted his roommate Dadan during a dispute while the two were drinking alcohol on Friday night.
Altercation turns fatal
According to police, Ranjit and Dadan, 46, had been living together at Ajay Park in Naya Bazar, Najafgarh, for around five months. Dadan, who hailed from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, worked at a scrap warehouse in Delhi.
Police said the two men were drinking at their rented house on August 28 when an argument broke out over an unspecified issue. The dispute reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation.
Ranjit allegedly assaulted Dadan, causing him to fall headfirst onto the concrete floor. The impact reportedly resulted in fatal injuries.
Police said the accused was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and, after the incident, remained in the room with Dadan’s body and slept there.
Police alerted after body found
At around 1 pm on August 28, Najafgarh police received information from a 23-year-old man identified as Ramesh, who reported that his uncle had been found dead with injuries.
Police subsequently began an investigation into the circumstances of the death and questioned people connected with the victim and accused.
The investigation led police to identify Ranjit as the alleged perpetrator, following which he was arrested.
Police are continuing their investigation to establish the complete sequence of events surrounding the fatal altercation and determine the circumstances leading to Dadan’s death.
