Drunken brawl turns deadly in Ramanathapuram; one man killed

RAMANATHAPURAM: A late-night altercation between two men under the influence of alcohol turned fatal near the new bus stand on Sunday. Elangovan (41) of Theriruveli was killed after being struck on the head during a fight with Muniasamy (38) of Uthirakosamangai.

According to police, the two had been drinking together at a nearby wine shop when a dispute broke out. The argument escalated into a physical fight, during which Muniasamy allegedly picked up an iron rod and hit Elangovan on the head.

Witnesses immediately called the ‘108’ ambulance service. Though Elangovan was rushed to the Government Ramanathapuram Medical College Hospital, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival due to excessive bleeding.

Ramanathapuram town police have arrested Muniasamy and lodged him in judicial custody. Further investigations are ongoing.
