Thrissur’s Third Additional Sessions Court has handed down life imprisonment to eight RSS members for the 2010 killing of DYFI activist Biju from Kumbalangad. Nine individuals were charged in the case: Jayesh, Sumesh, Sebastian, Johnson, Biju, Ravi, Sajeesh, Suneesh, and Saneesh. However, the sixth accused, Ravi, passed away during the trial.

The brutal murder took place on May 16, 2010, right outside the Kumbalangad library near Wadakanchery in Thrissur. Biju was attacked with a sharp weapon in what the court ruled as a politically motivated crime. A friend who was present at the scene was also injured and later became the case’s primary witness. In total, 30 witnesses testified during the proceedings.

The investigation was led by Sinoj, the then Circle Inspector of Wadakanchery, who also filed the chargesheet. The prosecution was represented by Advocate K D Babu.

This verdict closes a decade-old case that has seen intense scrutiny and legal battle, highlighting the deep political tensions in the region.
