A 79-year-old woman who went missing during her evening walk in south Mumbai was quickly traced after a road accident, thanks to a GPS tracker discreetly fitted into her necklace by her grandson. The device helped the family locate her at a city hospital just hours after she failed to return home, easing their fears and enabling timely medical attention.
Accident during evening walk leaves family anxious
According to officials, Saira Bi Tajuddin Mulla was knocked down by a two-wheeler in the Sewree area on 3 December while she was out on her routine evening walk. Nearby pedestrians immediately came to her aid and shifted her to the civic-run KEM Hospital in Parel.
When she did not return home at her usual time, her family grew increasingly worried. The uncertainty surrounding her whereabouts caused panic, especially as she had not been able to contact anyone after the fall.
GPS tracker proves crucial in locating her
The tension eased when her grandson, Mohammed Wasim Ayub Mulla, activated the GPS device he had earlier placed inside her necklace for safety. The tracker showed her exact location at KEM Hospital, roughly five kilometres from the accident site.
Wasim, who works at a private firm in Nallasopara, immediately rushed to the hospital along with other family members. The device, originally installed as a precaution due to her age, proved invaluable in the emergency situation.
Treatment shifted to JJ Hospital
Hospital officials stated that Mulla had suffered a head injury in the collision. She was subsequently shifted to JJ Hospital for specialised care and is responding to treatment. Doctors have indicated that her condition is improving, offering relief to the concerned family.
This incident highlights the increasing relevance of personal tracking devices for senior citizens, especially in busy urban areas where medical emergencies and road accidents can occur without warning.
