An 85-year-old woman in Punjab’s Ludhiana was rescued after her daughter in Australia spotted CCTV footage of her being assaulted by her son and daughter-in-law. The accused, Jasveer Singh and Gurpreet Kaur, were arrested on Wednesday.

The shocking incident took place in Mohalla Bank Colony, Raikot. On April 1, Harpreet Kaur, the elderly woman’s daughter, noticed the brutal attack through a CCTV feed linked to her mobile phone. The footage from March 28 showed Jasveer repeatedly slapping and attempting to strangle his mother, Gurnam Kaur. As she nearly lost consciousness, he was seen dragging her across the floor.

Horrified, Harpreet forwarded the video to Gurpreet Singh, chairman of the NGO Manukhta Di Sewa. The NGO swiftly intervened, rescuing Gurnam and admitting her to a hospital.

The Raikot police, led by Sub-Inspector Amarjit Singh, registered the case after Gurnam revealed that she had endured ongoing abuse from her son and daughter-in-law. The couple has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
