Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday expressed deep shock over the death of six workers in a fireworks unit explosion at Chinnakamanpatti village in Virudhunagar. He held the DMK-led state government responsible for the tragedy, alleging gross negligence in enforcing safety protocols in the fireworks industry.
Palaniswami said the disaster could have been prevented had Chief Minister M.K. Stalin taken proactive steps, including conducting inspections and issuing firm directives to ensure workplace safety. “I strongly condemn the Stalin-led government for its repeated failure to act despite recurring deadly incidents,” he stated.
Calling for justice, the AIADMK leader demanded appropriate compensation for the bereaved families and urgent reforms to strengthen safety standards across the fireworks manufacturing sector to prevent further loss of life.
