SRIRANGAPATNA (Mandya dist): In a major crackdown on illegal drug transport, the Excise Department arrested two individuals for smuggling ganja in an unregistered vehicle at Bommuru Agrahara in Srirangapatna taluk on Tuesday.

The operation was led by Excise Inspector Y J Prafullachandra and his team, who intercepted the vehicle and apprehended the suspects. The accused have been identified as Irshad from Ambedkar Nagar in Mysuru and Akbar from Gundlupet town.

The team seized 12 kg and 940 grams of ganja from the duo. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and both individuals have been remanded to judicial custody.

The successful raid was carried out under the supervision of Mysuru division Joint Commissioner Basavaraja Hadapada, Mandya Excise DC R Nagashayana, and DySP V B Radhamani.
