New Delhi: Responding to the exit polls that have been flooding the news feed predicting a massive win for the BJP, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor rejected them saying, “I believe the exit polls are all wrong.”

In a tweet posted on Sunday, the Congress leader said, “I believe the exit polls are all wrong. In Australia last weekend, 56 different exit polls proved wrong. In India many people don’t tell pollsters the truth fearing they might be from the Government. Will wait till 23rd for the real results. (sic)”

In his tweet, Tharoor was referring to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s win after it was predicted that it was an unwinnable election for him.

An aggregate of the exit polls shows that the BJP-led NDA will win 302 of 543 seats and the Congress and its allies 122.

While most of the opposition leaders have rejected the exit polls, National Conference chief Omar Abdullah’s tweet went a slightly different way.

“Every single exit poll can’t be wrong! Time to switch off the TV, log out of social media & wait to see if the world is still spinning on its axis on the 23rd,” he tweeted.

Voting in the last of the seven-phase national election ended on Sunday, May 19. The counting will be held on May 23.
