Late-night dispute escalates into assault

A late-night argument over an extra chicken leg at a biryani centre near the old bus stand in Narmadapuram turned violent on Sunday, leaving a customer injured and the shopkeeper in police custody.

The injured man has been identified as Akhilesh Shivhare, a resident of Balaganj, who sustained a cut injury on his cheek and burn injuries on his palm during the altercation. Akhilesh is reportedly the cousin of a local BJP leader.

Argument over payment sparks clash

According to the complaint lodged with police, Akhilesh had visited the biryani stall late at night and requested an extra chicken leg with his order. The shopkeeper, Hasim Ali, allegedly asked for ₹10 extra, to which Akhilesh agreed. He paid using a ₹500 note.

After a brief wait, the shopkeeper reportedly informed Akhilesh that no chicken legs were available. When Akhilesh asked for the additional amount to be returned, an argument broke out between the two.

Police said the situation quickly escalated, with the shopkeeper allegedly picking up a hot utensil and a sharp object and attacking the customer.

Customer injured while defending himself

During the scuffle, Akhilesh attempted to protect himself but suffered burn injuries on his palm from the hot utensil and a cut on his face caused by the sharp object. The sudden violence caused panic at the crowded food stall, drawing the attention of nearby customers and passersby.

Witnesses alerted the police as the argument turned physical, leading to a tense situation at the popular late-night eatery.

Accused taken into custody

Personnel from Kotwali police station reached the spot shortly after receiving information and brought the situation under control. Both parties were taken to the police station for questioning.

A case was registered late Sunday night against Hasim Ali for assault and creating public disturbance. Police confirmed that the accused was taken into custody and that he has a criminal history, with five previous cases, including assault, registered against him.

Investigation underway

Police officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events and record statements from witnesses present at the stall during the incident. Akhilesh is reported to be out of danger and is undergoing treatment for his injuries.

The incident has once again highlighted how minor disputes can quickly spiral into violence, especially at crowded public places during late hours.
