Kattoor: A man masquerading as an Arabic astrologer and healer has been arrested for allegedly sexually exploiting women by tricking them into believing he could solve their personal and family troubles.

The accused, identified as Yusuf Ali (45), originally from Ottapalam and currently residing at Palakka Parambil House, was apprehended by Anthikad Police.

As per the investigation, Yusuf lured a woman claiming her family was under the influence of negative energy and summoned her to a supposed healing centre at Karalam, Kizhuthani. There, he allegedly sexually assaulted her and threatened her with death if she spoke out.

In another similar incident, he is accused of abusing a second woman at his alternate centre in Kurumpilavu, Pazhuvil. Under the pretense of removing “yakshi badha” (evil spirit possession) and “kaivisham” (black magic), he not only assaulted her but also swindled ₹1,55,000 and 8 sovereigns of gold ornaments from her.

Yusuf posed as a “Pranic healer” and Arabic astrologer to prey on emotionally distressed women, offering false hope of spiritual relief.

The police uncovered that he used an unidentified liquid on his hands, which he applied to the victims’ foreheads, instructing them to inhale it. This would partially intoxicate them, leaving them vulnerable to abuse.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities urging other potential victims to come forward.
