A major food adulteration racket involving fake cooking oil was uncovered in Hyderabad after police arrested a father-son duo accused of repackaging counterfeit oil using branded labels.
The operation was carried out by the Hyderabad Police at Vattinagulapally, where authorities discovered a large quantity of adulterated food products during a raid.
Large quantity of fake food products seized
According to officials, police seized over 5,026 litres of adulterated cooking oil along with 5,192 kilograms of expired wheat flour during the operation.
The total value of the seized products is estimated to be around ₹21.9 lakh.
Investigators said the accused were allegedly repackaging fake cooking oil into containers labelled as popular branded products before distributing them in the market.
Father-son duo arrested
Police arrested two individuals involved in the operation — a father and his son — who were reportedly running the illegal repackaging unit.
Authorities believe the accused were sourcing low-quality or adulterated oil and repackaging it to make it appear as legitimate branded products.
The operation raised concerns about food safety and the potential health risks posed by such adulterated products.
Investigation continues
Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the distribution network and identify other people possibly involved in the racket.
Authorities have urged consumers to remain cautious and purchase food products only from trusted retailers.
Food safety officials also warned that consuming adulterated oil or expired food products can pose serious health risks.
