Mumbai: A 24-year-old businessman arrested after a security breach at Jio World Plaza in Mumbai has allegedly told police that he created a fake Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) identity card and related documents using ChatGPT, according to a police remand application reported by Hindustan Times.

Police uncover forged PMO documents

Rohan Parikh was arrested after he allegedly used the fake credentials to claim a connection with the PMO at Jio World Plaza in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The incident took place on September 7, a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026 at the nearby Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre.

Police told a Magistrate’s court that Parikh allegedly admitted to creating the fake PMO identity card and other official-looking documents using ChatGPT since 2025.

Investigators reportedly recovered several forged English-language documents during a search of his residence in Khar. His mobile phone was also examined, with police finding searches related to drafting PMO correspondence.

‘Wanted to impress family’, police say

According to the police remand application, Parikh allegedly created the documents to raise his social standing, improve his self-esteem and impress people in his family and social circles.

Parikh was accompanied by Dilip Kunde, a 49-year-old former Army personnel, and another associate who remains absconding. Security personnel reportedly stopped the group after noticing that Kunde was carrying a revolver.

During the confrontation, Parikh allegedly claimed to be a PMO official and displayed a digital identity card, which was later found to be fake.

The group briefly entered the mall before leaving after purchasing a perfume and a wallet. Police subsequently traced Parikh using CCTV footage and vehicle details.

Court sends two accused to judicial custody

Police are investigating whether the forged credentials were used at other locations to obtain access or special privileges. Investigators are also examining Parikh’s electronic devices and attempting to trace the absconding associate.

Parikh and Kunde were sent to 14-day judicial custody after the court declined a request for further police custody. Both have since sought bail, with the prosecution asked to respond by September 17.

Police have said the incident had no link to Prime Minister Modi’s scheduled programme, despite the security concerns created by its proximity to the event venue
