The remains of Shubham Dwivedi, a Kanpur resident among the 26 victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, arrived in Lucknow on Wednesday night. His father, Sanjay Dwivedi, called for the harshest possible punishment for those responsible, stating, “The response should be so extreme that their future generations will never dare to take a life again.”
Shubham, along with his wife and sister-in-law, had visited a place known as ‘mini Switzerland’ in the highlands. They stopped at a restaurant, 7 kilometers from the location, when terrorists arrived. The attackers questioned whether they were Hindu or Muslim before shooting Shubham in the head. His wife, in an attempt to save him, asked the terrorists to kill her as well. However, the terrorists spared her life, telling her to report the incident to the Prime Minister.
In a heartfelt interview, Sanjay Dwivedi emphasized the need for stringent action against the terrorists, urging that their punishment should serve as a warning to future generations.
At the Lucknow airport, Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak and other officials paid their respects to Shubham and another victim, Sudeep from Nepal, who also perished in the attack.
India, in retaliation, announced a series of measures to send a clear message to Pakistan for its involvement in cross-border terrorism. These actions include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and closing the integrated checkpost at Attari.
