Agra: A one-year-old girl is feared missing after her father allegedly threw her into the Yamuna River from a bridge in Agra on Wednesday. He reportedly told his wife that he wanted to take a selfie with the child moments before the incident.

The incident took place at the Akbara Yamuna Bridge under the jurisdiction of the Sikandra police station. The couple, identified as Rinku and Lakshmi, had reportedly left home on a motorcycle with their daughter to travel to Agra city when an argument broke out.

Child allegedly thrown from bridge

According to Lakshmi’s account, Rinku stopped the motorcycle on the bridge and said he wanted to take a selfie with their daughter. He allegedly walked to the railing, took a photograph with the child and then threw her into the river.

When Lakshmi rushed towards him, he allegedly tried to push her into the Yamuna as well. Her screams reportedly attracted the attention of passersby.

The crowd then caught Rinku and allegedly assaulted him before handing him over to the police. A video purportedly showing the assault has also circulated on social media.

Divers search Yamuna for infant

Following a complaint, PAC divers launched a search operation in the Yamuna to locate the missing child. The infant had not been found at the time of reporting.

A case has been registered at the Sikandra police station, and police are investigating the incident. Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged act and the events that preceded it.
