Father of missing Pitt student pleads for answers amid desperate search
The father of Sudiksha Konanki, a University of Pittsburgh student who vanished during a spring break trip to the Dominican Republic, has spoken out about his daughter’s disappearance. The 20-year-old Indian-origin woman was last seen at Riu Republica Resort beach around 4:50 a.m. on March 6.
Her father, Subbarayudu Konanki, revealed to CNN that Sudiksha had dreams of becoming a doctor and was preparing for pre-med studies. “She was an ambitious girl, full of promise,” he shared.
Before she went missing, Sudiksha told her friends she was heading to a party at the resort. She later went to the beach around 4 a.m. with a group, including some men they had met. Her friends returned after a while, but Sudiksha never came back. When they couldn’t find her in her room the next morning, they alerted authorities, prompting a massive land and sea search.
Rescue teams, including the Dominican Civil Defense, National Police, and Indian Embassy officials, are scouring coastal waters, dense brush, and nearby areas. Helicopters and specialized search tools are being deployed, but no trace of her has been found yet.
Riu República Hotel has stated they are fully cooperating with authorities to aid in the investigation.
