Film director Sanoj Kumar Mishra has been arrested by Delhi Police in connection with a rape and assault case after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Delhi High Court. Mishra, known for offering a film role to the viral Mahakumbh Mela girl Monalisa, is accused by a 28-year-old woman of coercing her into a relationship under false pretenses.
The woman, from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, claimed she met Mishra on social media platforms TikTok and Instagram in 2020. The director allegedly pressured her into meeting him by threatening suicide. In June 2021, Mishra reportedly took her to a resort, where she alleges that he assaulted her. She also claims that Mishra blackmailed her using inappropriate photos and videos, forcing her into a relationship under the pretense of marriage and film opportunities.
In February 2025, Mishra allegedly abandoned the woman and threatened to leak her private content if she filed a complaint. An FIR has been filed against the director under charges of rape, assault, criminal intimidation, and causing miscarriage. Medical records supporting the woman’s claims were obtained from Muzaffarnagar.
Mishra, a 45-year-old married man, resides with his family in Mumbai. His arrest follows an investigation into the woman’s allegations and her statement under Section 164 CrPC.
