A final-year BSc biotechnology student at Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Shivangi Mishra (22), allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room in Jaunpur on Tuesday night, shortly after a phone call with her fiancé, police said.
Mishra, a resident of Kotwalpur village, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room at Laxmibai Women’s Hostel. Hostelmates heard her engaged in a loud conversation around 11 PM but became concerned when she fell silent. After failing to get a response, they alerted the warden, who informed university authorities. When the door was forced open, she was discovered unresponsive.
She was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Police are investigating all possible angles, though preliminary findings suggest she may have been under stress regarding her upcoming wedding on November 25. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
