New Delhi: The debate on 2016 surgical strikes on Pakistan soil after the Uri attack on the Indian Armed forces is on between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Congress has been demanding evidence of the strikes from BJP. Even though some footage was released by the security forces, the debate did not end. Today, i.e, on Monday, May 20, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command of the Indian Army, Lt. Gen. Ranbir Singh has revealed that the first surgical strike was carried out in September 2016 to avenge the terror attack on army base camps at Uri.

According to ANI, Lt. Gen Singh has said that few days ago, the DGMO had replied to an RTI on the whether the surgical strike had happened or not. He had replied that it did happen for the first time in September 2016 and that he did not want to get into what the political parties had to say.

Lt. Gen. Singh said that DGMO had said that the government would answer the political parties.

Earlier, senior Congress leader Rajiv Shukla in a press meet at the party office on Thursday, May 2, had revealed that during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) led-Congress government six surgical strikes had been carried out by the security forces in which two were during former prime minister Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
