Five individuals, including two foreign nationals, were injured when a hotel driver lost control of a Mercedes and crashed into them at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai on Sunday morning. The incident took place around 7:30 am at level P10 near departure gate no. 2.
The driver, 34-year-old Parshuram Dadanavre, was dropping off passengers when he accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake, sending the vehicle over a speed bump and into a railing, where it struck several people. Among the injured were two Czech nationals who suffered leg fractures. One of the Czech nationals may require surgery, according to police officials. They were taken to Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle for treatment.
The other injured individuals were loaders and trolley handlers, all male, who were on the premises at the time of the incident. The driver, Dadanavre, was arrested and booked under charges of rash driving. The front portion of the Mercedes was severely damaged in the crash.
A spokesperson for the airport stated that the airport’s medical team quickly provided first aid to the victims, who were then admitted to the hospital. CSMIA authorities are working with police to ensure passenger safety and the smooth continuation of operations at the airport.
