A tragic incident in Bhabua has raised serious concerns about food safety after a 20-year-old man reportedly died following consumption of restaurant-packed food.
The deceased, identified as Vishal, had dinner with his brother and friends late at night, consuming dishes such as Manchurian and Kadhai Paneer. According to reports, he began vomiting soon after and his condition rapidly deteriorated.
Condition worsened overnight
Family members rushed him to the hospital in the early hours, around 4.30 am, where doctors declared him dead. His sudden death has left the family in shock, especially as preparations were underway for his sacred thread ceremony later this month.
Authorities have stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after post-mortem and laboratory reports.
Food safety concerns resurface
The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with eating outside, especially during summer months when food contamination becomes more common.
Experts say high temperatures accelerate bacterial growth, making improper storage and handling of food particularly dangerous.
Common causes of food poisoning
Health experts identify several key reasons behind foodborne illnesses:
- Bacterial contamination from organisms like Salmonella and E. coli
- Improper storage leading to rapid spoilage
- Undercooked food, especially meat and dairy
- Use of contaminated water or low-quality ingredients
Precautions while cooking at home
Maintaining hygiene is essential while preparing meals:
- Wash vegetables and check ingredients thoroughly
- Ensure clean kitchen surfaces and utensils
- Cook food properly and avoid undercooking
- Check expiry dates of sauces and dairy products
- Store leftovers safely and reheat properly before consumption
Safety tips while ordering food
Experts also advise caution when consuming outside food at home:
- Check packaging for tampering or leakage
- Consume food within 30–40 minutes of delivery
- Reheat food properly before eating
- Avoid packaged chutneys and sauces from outside
A reminder for vigilance
While investigations are ongoing, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of food hygiene and timely precautions, particularly during summer.
Ensuring safe food practices—both at home and while ordering—can significantly reduce the risk of life-threatening illnesses.
