Food safety officials in Telangana have launched an investigation into the Central Kitchen of Narayana Educational Society, located in Kuntloor Village, Rangareddy district, after multiple food safety violations were discovered during an inspection. A task force representing the Food Safety Commissioner of Telangana visited the premises on March 10, 2025, and flagged numerous grave concerns.
The inspection revealed several critical lapses, including issues with the food business operator’s (FBO) license. The FBO had applied for the wrong license category, and it was noted that the required modifications were not made as per regulations. Additionally, the FBO was using nine vehicles to transport food, but the necessary transport license was not obtained.
Concerns over food hygiene were also raised. The water analysis report failed to test for microbial contaminants, and the kitchen was found to have poor sanitation practices. Rat feces were observed in the vegetable cutting area, and houseflies were found in the kitchen, raising the risk of contamination. Other issues included the use of rusty knives, spoiled vegetables like potatoes and tomatoes, and improper storage practices where food items were found stored on the ground.
Food safety officials also identified physical maintenance problems, such as patchy flooring, stagnant water, broken wall tiles, and cobwebs in storage areas. The raw water tank for the R.O. plant was found to be unclean, further raising concerns about contamination.
Following these findings, the task force stated that appropriate action will be taken under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act), 2006.
This is not the first time food safety lapses have been identified at educational institution kitchens in Hyderabad. Earlier in January 2025, officials found similar violations at the Central Kitchen of Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutes, including cockroach infestations and improper storage.
