Former Arunachal Pradesh Minister Medi Ram Dodum passed away on Sunday morning after a prolonged illness. He was 69 years old and is survived by six children and several grandchildren.

Dodum, a notable Congress leader, was recognized for his significant contributions to the horticulture and fisheries sectors during his political career. His service and leadership left a lasting impact on these areas.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed his condolences, highlighting Dodum’s impactful leadership and dedication. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Cabinet Minister, Shri Medi Ram Dodum, on September 1, 2024. He was a dedicated public servant with a legacy of impactful leadership and warmth,” Khandu wrote on X (formerly Twitter). He added, “His adventurous spirit and commitment to public service will be remembered by all who knew him… My heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and well-wishers. Om Shanti.”

Dodum began his political career in 1984 when he contested the Doimukh-Sagalee assembly seat as an independent candidate but did not succeed. He joined the BJP in 1986 and later switched to the Congress in 1988. In 1995, he successfully won the Bameng assembly seat and served as the deputy minister of horticulture. He was promoted to cabinet rank in 1996, taking on responsibilities for both horticulture and fisheries.

In addition to his ministerial roles, Dodum was instrumental in establishing the Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society in 1979 and played a key role in forming the All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA). His contributions to both political and social spheres have left a lasting legacy in Arunachal Pradesh.
