New Delhi: The lines between politics, entertainment and sports seem to be getting more blurred by the day. After several actors jumped into the political pool ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has now thrown his hat into the ring as well.
On Friday, March 22, Gambhir joined the BJP in the presence of Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad ahead of the coming Lok Sabha elections.
Gambhir said, on the occasion, that he was grateful to the BJP for giving him an opportunity to do something for the country. He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his vision made him decide to join the BJP.
A few days ago, Gambhir had told ANI that he had not thought about joining politics, although he wanted to do something good for society. He added that he has a young family and wants to be around during their early days.
The former cricketer has been vocal about his views on social issues on social media. This gave rise to suspicions that he is considering a career in politics.
Gambhir retired in 2018 after completing 10,000 runs in List-A cricket. He was recently awarded the Padma Shri.
