Days after announcing that he would formally join the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), former Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) Jacob Thomas on Wednesday attended the organisation’s path sanchalan (march) in Kochi.

Jacob Thomas in RSS uniform

Thomas, who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2021, was seen in the traditional RSS uniform of brown trousers and a white shirt as he participated in the path sanchalan. His presence in the march drew attention as it came shortly after he publicly declared his intent to be an RSS worker.

Statement on RSS philosophy

On Monday, the former IPS officer had announced his decision to join the RSS, saying that the organisation “has no caste or religion” and works to unite people across communities. His move marks a significant step in his political journey, having transitioned from a career in policing to active association with the BJP and now the RSS.

Political significance in Kerala

Jacob Thomas’s association with the RSS could have political implications in Kerala, a state where the organisation has been steadily working to expand its influence. As a former senior police officer known for his outspoken views on governance and corruption, Thomas’s presence may lend visibility to the Sangh’s activities in the state.
