Former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh has undergone 15 days of intense questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the alleged rape-murder of a trainee doctor at the institution. The investigation includes lie-detection and voice analysis tests.

Sources informed CNN-News18 that Ghosh is accused of trying to shift blame regarding the hospital’s handling of the case. Specifically, he is under scrutiny for why the hospital authorities misled the deceased doctor’s parents about the nature of the incident and why the crime scene was left unattended for approximately 40 minutes.

Key issues under investigation include the delay in informing Ghosh about the death, which reportedly occurred around 9:30 am on August 9. The body was discovered at this time, yet Ghosh claims he was only informed at 10:20 am, a 50-minute gap during which the police were only notified at 10:10 am.

Ghosh has stated that he was initially unable to answer a call from Sumit Roy Tapadar, an associate professor, due to being in the washroom. He claims he returned Tapadar’s call at 10:20 am, which is when he first learned about the incident. Ghosh asserts he immediately left for RG Kar hospital, calling the Tala police station and other hospital officials en route, and arrived at the hospital at 11 am.

The CBI’s investigation is focused on discrepancies in Ghosh’s account and the presence of his aides inside the seminar hall during the crucial period. The agency is also examining the inconsistencies in his statements and the response times of hospital and police officials.
