A family dosa recipe has become the foundation of an inspiring food-business journey in Thane, where Ganesh Sathe and his sister Sapna turned a struggling roadside cart into a popular benne dosa venture.
The story, shared by The Better India on Instagram, highlights how persistence, family support and a willingness to try a different path can transform a modest idea into a thriving enterprise.
A mother’s recipe sparked a new dream
Ganesh had been preparing for the CA examination when he found himself increasingly drawn towards his mother’s benne dosa. Instead of continuing on the conventional career path, he decided to take a chance on the family recipe.
He borrowed ₹50,000 and started a small dosa stall using an old cart. However, customers were slow to arrive, and the business reportedly began losing around ₹200 a day.
The siblings refused to give up
With Sapna joining him, the siblings continued working despite the difficult beginning. Their small cart faced competition from popular food trucks and other fashionable street-food options.
When sales remained weak, they decided to turn to social media. They rebuilt the cart, focused on their dosa-making process and began documenting their journey online.
The approach gradually started attracting attention.
From an old cart to a busy outlet
As their online presence grew, more customers began visiting the stall. According to the report, the business eventually began selling out within an hour, with nearly 400 people visiting the outlet each day.
Their mother and Sapna prepare fresh batter, while Ganesh makes the dosas, keeping the family recipe at the heart of the business.
The venture is now reported to generate close to ₹40,000 a day, or around ₹12 lakh a month.
The journey is a reminder that success does not always begin with a grand plan. Sometimes, it starts with a recipe passed down at home and the courage to believe in it.
